Mentoring for leaders operating inside complex systems.
When governance isn’t holding, culture has gone off track, or something needs to be raised, I help you find the way through.
Mentoring for leaders operating inside complex systems.
When governance isn’t holding, culture has gone off track, or something needs to be raised, I help you find the way through.
There was probably a time when leading felt more straightforward...
You raised a concern and it was taken seriously. A decision needed to be made and the people around the table argued it through properly, then backed it once it was made. You trusted the system you were operating inside even when it was imperfect because it was at least trying to work.
At some point that changed.
Maybe it was a board that stopped asking hard questions and started rewarding whoever told them what they wanted to hear.
Maybe it was a colleague or an executive whose behaviour everyone quietly worked around, rather than addressed.
Maybe it was the moment you raised something that clearly mattered and watched the room find a way to make it about you instead.
You've likely already tried the obvious things...
Another round of consultation.
A carefully worded email.
A conversation with HR that went nowhere.
A facilitator brought in to “reset the culture” who left everyone saying the right words in the room and nothing changing once the door closed.
The part that’s disorienting is that none of it is dramatic enough on its own to point to and say “this is the problem.”
It’s a pattern. A tone in meetings. A way certain names never get challenged. A sense that raising something correctly still isn’t enough to get it heard.
You keep doing the job well because you’re good at it, while carrying something underneath that nobody else in the building seems willing to name.
It’s at that point people come to me.
Systems don’t usually break all at once. They drift, a little at a time, as the cost of raising something quietly outweighs the cost of letting it slide. Everyone in the room adjusts to that, without ever deciding to.
The leaders who turn this around aren’t the ones who shout louder. They’re the ones who learn to see the pattern clearly, build a case that holds up, and communicate in a way that’s difficult to dismiss.
Corporate culture is ready for integrity built on conscious accountability.
I can show you how to lead that shift.
Areas of support
- Boards and executive teams. Particularly where trust has broken down and every conversation now carries more weight than it should.
- Governance and regulatory complexity. Working through situations involving boards, auditors or external regulators where the right next move isn't always obvious, and the wrong one can be costly.
- Culture change under pressure. Including toxic, defensive or fear-based cultures where the usual initiatives haven't landed, and where psychological safety needs to become daily practice rather than a slogan.
- Raising what needs to be raised. Building the judgement and the language to name a problem in a way that gets taken seriously, rather than dismissed or turned back on you.
- Strategic thinking at a senior level. Working through high-stakes decisions with someone who can see the whole board, not just the piece directly in front of you.
- Supporting HR and people leaders. For those trying to hold a system accountable from the inside, often without much support of their own.
- Conscious communication through conflict. Without drama, without blame and without losing the relationships you'll still need once the conversation is over.
What I’ve seen
Over 30 years working alongside senior leaders across government, non-profit, and private sector organisations, including ASX and FTSE 100 companies, I’ve seen how often good people get worn down trying to fix something that’s broken, without real support in doing it well.
My focus is moving leaders from drama to integrity and from unconscious patterns to conscious accountability, through clear communication rather than conflict, and the gravitas that real accountability requires. Not fighting the system head-on and not staying quiet but finding the strategic, grounded path through.
Client reviews
“I walked out of the presentation at the end and the Chair and CEO both followed me. All they could say was ‘wow’. I am feeling so proud. Thank you so much, Madelaine.”
Executive, Australia
“I could not have reached this stage of empowerment without your support and aligned guidance. I am so grateful for that.”
KP, CFO, Australia
“I honestly don’t know how you do it. Once again you nailed it in how you read the situation. I was able to get my point across in a way that was next level.“
GS, LT Executive, Australia
What shifts
You stop absorbing it as your failing. The dysfunction in the room stops feeling like something you should have fixed alone and starts being seen clearly for what it is.
You walk in with steady ground. A difficult board conversation, a governance review, a performance discussion; it doesn’t catch you off balance anymore.
Your communication gets harder to talk over. Clearer, more direct, without tipping into defensiveness or losing the room.
You build a track record that gets taken seriously. Raising an issue stops being something that gets managed away and starts being something people respond to.
Corporate mentoring
What's included
Weekly or Fortnightly 60-minute sessions Held online, giving the work a steady rhythm without becoming a heavy time commitment on top of an already full calendar.
A 3, 6, or 12-month engagement Some engagements focus on a specific governance issue and wrap up in a defined window. Others run longer, particularly where the work is about shifting an entire culture.
Direct support between sessions When something urgent comes up, you’re not left carrying it alone until the next scheduled call.
Help with written communication Board papers, difficult emails, or statements to a regulator, reviewed and refined so the wording matches what needs to be said.
Optional 360-degree feedback Brought in with HR or a nominated representative, to bring a wider view of how the change is landing across the organisation.
A starting conversation Every engagement begins with a discussion about what’s going on, so the focus of the work reflects your situation, not a generic leadership program.
Some of the work that comes to me involves risk: whistleblower situations, conduct concerns, board conflict. My role is to help you think clearly, communicate well, and protect yourself while you do the right thing. Where a situation calls for legal, HR, or regulatory advice, I’ll say so directly. My work sits alongside that support, not in place of it.
This is for CEOs, HR leaders, board members, and executive teams who want tailored, ongoing support at a senior level
Working through something more personal? A private session is a better place to start. Looking for a speaker on these themes? That sits under speaking and advocacy.
